Battle of Brémule

August 20, 1119 Henry I defeated an invasion of his Norman lands by Louis VI (the Fat), King of France, at the Battle of Brémule. The defeat effectively crippled the baron's rebellion and led to King Louis having to accept William Adelin as Duke of Normandy. William was officially invested with the duchy in 1120, even though King Louis continued to support William Clito's claim to the honour. The contemporary Norman historian Orderic Vitalis noted that the quality of their armour and the chivalrous preference for capturing (and presumably ransoming) the enemy meant that of the 900 knights engaged in ‘the battle of the two kings’ only three were killed.

  1. It's heart warming for me to see another writer, not only writing historical fiction but researching in detail in order to get at the truth or at best, somewhere near it. Medieval chroniclers such as Oderic Vitalis, were it seems, under the influence of their reigning monarchs, thus the real truth, whatever it may be, very hard to find. So, we have to collect all available data, stand back and try and make sense of it.
In my novel, 'BELLÊME The Norman Warrior,' I tried to do just that. Researching its sequel I came across your web site, via Battle of Brémule.
I have to admit, I haven't seen your novels advertised before but right now, I'm intrigued enough to go and buy one of your books, probably, Concoria or have you published anything closer to the period I'm writing about?
    All the best,

  2. Hi Roy, thank you for your interest in my work. The Briton and the Dane trilogy is set in 9th century Anglo-Saxon Britain during the reign of Alfred the Great. The first book in the series, The Briton and the Dane takes place in 878, shortly after the defeat of King Guthrum. The story continues with The Briton and the Dane: Birthright and finishes with The Briton and the Dane: Legacy. The entire trilogy, 2nd edition, is available in the Kindle store for $2.99. The Briton and the Dane: Concordia is a stand alone novel about one of the characters from the trilogy and takes place 16 years later. Best of luck with your writing and sales. God Bless. Mary Ann
