81 Domitian became Emperor of the Roman
Empire upon the death of his brother Titus.
891 Pope Stephen V died. The
pontificate of Stephen witnessed the disintegration of the Carolingian Empire.
1523 Pope Adrian VI died. Adrian VI was the only Dutch pope, and the last
non-Italian pope to be elected until Pope John Paul II in the twentieth
century.
