FREE, for a limited time: The Juice and Other Stories by Bill Jones Jr.

The Juice and Other Stories brings together a collection of 13 tales of romance, science fiction, urban fantasy, and suspense from the imaginative author of The Stream trilogy and the Sci Fi adventure, Hard as Roxx.

In "Remembering," beings from another world find themselves herded along their own trail of tears. Their leader, Tofray, has the unenviable job of remembering their stories and their suffering. "Mrs. What's-Her-Name" details a woman's struggle to regain her memory, and her life, after a devastating brain injury. In "The Juice," a woman of the street searches for her next client, and promises him surprises. "The Clown Man" visits a beautiful child's dreams and turns them to nightmares; however, Cruz, a dream walker, is there, and he means to keep the girl safe.

The novelette "Manhattan Transference" details the story of Luce, a vaporous visitor from a dying planet, who must find the only robotics expert who can help save the alien race from destruction. Luce's sun will go supernova soon, and without Dr. Roman's help, all of Luce's people will die with it. There is only one problem: Luce's new human form, and the raw emotions that come with it. "Fool O'clock" details a stressful day in the life of Jim Pyle, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Fool Abatement, a government agency tasked with keeping the U.S. safe from fools of all sorts.

In the novelette "Days of the Never Was," three pairs of arguing friends disappear into a strange fog bank and reemerge with their entire worlds turned upside down.

Other stories are "Crazy Magnet," about an investigator with a gift for attracting crazy people; "He Ain't Heavy," a suspense story about twin brothers. "From the Black, the Blues," Sci Fi romance about lovers from two time periods; "The Utopian / Dystopian Compass," Sci Fi; "Reggie and Rocky Vs. Space Monsters from Beneath the Bed," a contemporary fantasy starring 3 and 5-year-old dream walkers; and "Set Fire to the Rain," an excerpt from Emprise.

Bio
Bill Jones, Jr. was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up as a painfully shy kid in southern Virginia, listening to his mother’s war stories and wondering why he didn’t inherit her gift for storytelling. Some years later, after discovering he had a talent for writing poetry, Bill thought perhaps not all of Mom’s genetics went to waste. In 2008, a writer friend encouraged him to pen a short story. He loved it. Shortly thereafter, he decided to see if he could turn the story into a book. It became two: Discovery and Awakening, the first two books of his fantasy fiction series The Stream.

Since then, he’s been writing almost constantly. He finished The Stream trilogy with Emprise, and then went on to write a short story anthology, The Juice and Other Stories, as well as his first Sci-Fi novel, Hard as Roxx. Currently, he’s editing a detective novel, has another in progress, and has begun a second short story collection.

On those rare days he’s not working at his Lockheed Martin day job, or his writing night job, Bill is a photographer, father, and life coach, along with other things he does for love rather than money. Usually, however, Bill can be found somewhere under a camera, shooting whatever there is. On the very best days, his photos end up as a scene in a book. On his bad days, they still end up as an scene in a book – just an angry one.

Free on Kindle: Emprise and The Juice and Other Stories by Bill Jones Jr

Free on Kindle - January 16 - 17, 2014 Emprise by Bill Jones, Jr.

Free on Kindle January 16 -20, 2014   The Juice and Other Stories

Need Something to Read this Weekend?

Have a 3-day weekend coming up and nothing planned? How about curling up with a good (virtual) book? I have two free Kindle book promotions starting tomorrow. Why not grab a copy?
For fans of fantasy adventure who have time to jump into a novel, why not curl up with Emprise?
stream_emprise_med
Emprise is the standalone follow-up to Discovery and Awakening, the first two books of The Stream series. It’s full of adventure, laughter, spirituality, and romance.
Sixteen-year-old Charlie is hunting creatures trying to have a normal life. It would be easier were he not tasked with hunting carnivorous rabbits, rapidly evolving dragons, and much more dangerous creatures from the world of dreams, The Stream. Something is destroying the gateway that separates dreams from reality and life from the afterlife. Only Charlie and his best friend, Robin can save the universe from chaos, and the dark enemies determined to bring it about.
There is another complication — Robin has begun to realize that she’s falling in love with Charlie, just when he no longer seems interested. Both teens’ worlds are about to get very complicated. Follow them through a fantastic, spiritual journey through worlds of mythical creatures, powerful beings from the Heaven Plane, to Africa, and back to small-town Virginia, where the multiverses seem destined to collide.
Emprise will be free tomorrow, 16 January 2014 through 17 January 2014.
For those of you who don’t have time to (or interest in) reading an entire novel, I’m offering my short story collection, The Juice and Other Stories for free, starting tomorrow, 16 January, through Monday, 20 January. There’s something here for everyone.

In 2137, the universal One Child Law says Roxanne Grail must surrender her daughter Jessi for extermination or die with her. The Law picked the wrong girl.

In a world that is a distorted hybrid of rigid control and absolute lawlessness, Roxanne Grail broke The Law: she got pregnant for the second time, and the penalty is death. Now, she and her two girls need to make it across the Sahara to the frozen European north and freedom.

Follow Roxx and her two daughters, along with Roxx's partner, Trint, as they attempt to flee her youngest daughter's father, who just happens to lead one of the most powerful armies in the world. It is an exciting battle for survival, which features robot armies, a believable dystopian society, advanced technology, a rebel insurgency, as well as Roxx, who is determined to kill anyone who threatens her daughters.

Mr. Chuckles is reading Hard as Roxx by Bill Jones, Jr.

In a world that is a distorted hybrid of rigid control and absolute lawlessness, Roxanne Grail broke a cardinal rule: she got pregnant, for the second time. Now, she and her two daughters need to make it across the Sahara to the frozen European north, and freedom. There are just two problems: one, she doesn’t have a way to get there, and two, the One Child Law doesn’t have a statute of limitations. The penalty for a second birth is death - to the mother and to the child. And her youngest daughter’s father? Well, he just happens to be a war hero and emerging leader of a shaky burgeoning democracy. An illegal child – especially the result of a rape – wouldn’t be good for his career. He means to see that no one ever finds out. Meet Roxx, a 6'3" martial arts instructor with a penchant for twentieth-century tech, including her 1940 Indian motorcycle. The Law says she must surrender her child, or die. Roxx never studied law. So, it is Roxx, her two daughters, and new partner, Trint, against the world. Those odds suit Roxx just fine.

Excerpt from Hard As Roxx written by Bill Jones, Jr.:

Roxx's head throbbed. She didn't need to touch it to know there would be a deep purple bruise atop an ugly knot in the middle of her forehead. She would need to wear bangs for a week after this. She was sitting in the dirt, but apparently had not been for long, as the crowd of men had not left. Her chest hurt, and she likely had a broken sternum from the pistol slug, but otherwise, she was intact. The air was thick with smells. To her immediate right, where the Dead Men stood, the air was heavy with sweat, adrenaline, and fervor. Their eyes were hungry, and they surrounded her daughter like starving jackals. The girl bounced in their midst, still fighting, never taking her eyes off her mom, distracting the Dead Men in their fevered heat. These weren't soldiers and not well trained. None had checked Roxx's pulse and none were watching.

The sniper remained in the shadows from whence he'd taken the first shot, the one that had almost penetrated her skin, almost breached her skull and into her brain. He'd made his first mistake. His back was turned. The old man sat, 9mm pistol still in hand, smiling as his dogs played with their new toy. As she bounced within the group, Jazz kicked up a cloud of dust, managing to aim it at the old man's head before she was jerked to a stop by one of her captors. Cheng cursed and grabbed at his eyes, which were watering from the dirt. At his feet lay a dead African, his throat wide. Jazz's knife lay next to him.

    Roxx smiled. That's my girl.
