1542 at the Battle of Solway Moss: The English army defeated the
Scots. The English force of approximately 3,000 was far outnumbered by an army
of at least 10,000 Scots, but in-fighting among the invaders helped the English
commander, Wharton, rout his foes in this surprising victory.
