Mary Ann Bernal review:

Carla is the story of a perceived mentally-ill person, John Dexter, who shares his story truthfully about his psychiatric illnesses, hospitalizations, and his obsessive love for a woman half his age. He speaks to the reader, as if writing a blog, sharing painful memories with acceptance, his writings cathartic, purging his fear.  The story held my interest to the very last page and I look forward to reading more novels by this author.

Sanguinary by Emma Edwards, Amazon Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Punchy, 27 Feb 2013

Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)

This review is from: Sanguinary (Kindle Edition)
If you enjoy books told in the first person with short, punchy dialogue and your vampires hot and their lovemaking raunchy, you will love this book!

Sanguinary was a read in a different direction for me, not my usual choice but I tried it on recommendation. It took me a few chapters to get into it but once I did, Ms Edwards' storytelling brought me closer to the characters, the plot began to unfold and 'what ifs' and 'I wonder ifs' filled my mind as I read. When the relationship between the three girls grew and the complexities of the vampire 'family unfolded, Ms Edwards 'got me' and I couldn't wait to read to the end.

The sex in this book is explicit and, if I'm honest, a little too explicit for my taste. Though well written, it didn't add to the book for me but also, in no way detracted.

So, for a raunchy, rollicking, 'no holes barred', sexy vampire read, I can highly recommend this book. It gets my five stars as I enjoyed it, recommend it and will read it again before I read the next book in the series. This is a cracking debut novel.

1361  Wenceslas of Bohemia, Holy Roman Catholic German emperor (1378-1400) was born.  Not to be confused with the "Good King" of the same name, he was the son of the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV.  He was a peace-loving, but incompetent ruler, who died childless.

Free on Kindle Feb 26-March 2nd - Their Journey Begins by K-Trina Meador

K-Trina Meador 4:16pm Feb 25
Free from Feb. 26th until March 2nd!

Their Journey Begins...

Years prior to the American Civil War, the hardships and tests of life are developing traits of strength, courage and integrity into the lives of individuals who are destined to meet. Freedom and their survival mean relying on others when they have all learned to rely on nobody…

Their Journey Begins is a prequel featuring individual short story vignettes of Greggory, Robert, Marissa, and Daniel before their lives converge into the full length novel, Journey to Freedom.

Greggory is a half-breed; a mix of Indian and black blood who struggles both emotionally and physically with hatred and prejudice.

Robert is a slave on a Florida plantation who takes in the starving, angry young Greggory under his wing and helps him grow into a man of courage and valor.

Marrissa is a young girl who watches her mother waste away working as a maid in the saloon after the death of her husband. Dodging the advances of the saloon owner and his threats to put her in service, Marrissa dreams of having a better life and strikes out on her own after her mother's sudden illness and death.

Daniel is an introvert who finds his safe haven nestled in a cabin away from civilization and his painful past. His business of trapping is successful and he finds contentment in the simple life he leads and a measure of peace until two visitors uproots his comfortable isolation.

What readers are saying about Their Journey Begins:

~ The author has created a great `prologue' style book that draws you in, and leaves you wanting more.

~ Their Journey Begins is a beginning, and an end, an interconnecting of lives interrupted, ripped away, by a society of oppression, a dark period in American history, when slaves were considered possessions.

~ It is written tightly and with heart, and holds the reader throughout, but it needs to be read in conjunction with its sequel for a fuller view to be grasped and understood, although without it, it still stands alone as a lovely read that I recommend for the whole family.

SSLY Blog - Book Spotlight/Giveaway The Briton and the Dane: Concordia

Book Spotlight/Giveaway - Concordia - Mary Ann Bernal  http://wp.me/p38Iym-21 via @ovalleba

Travel back in time to late Ninth Century Anglo-Saxon Britain where Alfred the Great rules with a benevolent hand while the Danish King rules peacefully within the boundaries of the Danelaw. Trade flourishes, and scholars from throughout the civilized world flock to Britannia’s shores to study at the King’s Court School at Winchester.

Enter Concordia, a beautiful noble woman whose family is favored by the king. Vain, willful, and admired, but ambitious and cunning, Concordia is not willing to accept her fate. She is betrothed to the valiant warrior, Brantson, but sees herself as far too young to lay in the bedchamber of an older suitor. She wants to see the wonders of the world, embracing everything in it; preferably, but dangerously, at the side of Thayer, the exotic Saracen who charms King Alfred’s court and ignites her yearning passions.

Concordia manipulates her besotted husband into taking her to Rome, but her ship is captured by bloodthirsty pirates, and the seafarers protecting her are ruthlessly slain to a man. As she awaits her fate in the Moorish captain’s bed, by sheer chance, she discovers that salvation is at hand in the gilded court of a Saracen nobleman.

While awaiting rescue, Concordia finds herself at the center of intrigue, plots, blackmail, betrayal and the vain desires of two egotistical brothers, each willing to die for her favor. Using only feminine cunning, Concordia must defend her honor while plotting her escape as she awaits deliverance, somewhere inside steamy, unconquered Muslim Hispania.
