Walter Taylor may have lived before you and I were born or
even thought of but his niece has been kind enough to bring back his wonderful
story about life in the Wild Dixie lands. Through struggle and strife this is a
classic, timeless tale of how the frontier of Texas was populated and cultivated
after the civil war. Set in the lowlands of Mississippi and then into the Piney
Woods of East Texas, the story surrounds a young man by the name of Buck Taylor.
(Believe it or not, the author makes it clear that a lot of the accounts in the
story are true and can be verified by numerous sources, living and
dead.)
Buck Taylor is a young man, befriended by most, and loved by many. He is trying to find a way to make it in the new land that his family has brought him to but it is not an easy life. Between the work he is forced to do in the Klu Klux Klan and the Negro soldiers that are on his trail, he weaves a life in and out of the swamps, hills, and rivers of East Texas and Mississippi. Of course, there is always a girl or two around the corner that would like to either snag Buck and treat him right or lie in wait to deceive him.
This is a wonderful story of love, life, friendship, and courage. If you love a good book that keeps you guessing, keeps you turning the page, and keeps you up "ALL" night reading, then this is the book for you! I have to thank K. Meador for bringing this timeless classic to my attention and then sharing the story for everyone to enjoy!
