Book Spotlight: Lucie Dumas by Katherine Mezzacappa

London, 1871: Lucie Dumas of Lyon has accepted a stipend from her former lover and his wife, on condition that she never returns to France; she will never see her young son again. As the money proves inadequate, Lucie turns to prostitution to live, joining the ranks of countless girls from continental Europe who'd come to London in the hope of work in domestic service.

Escaping a Covent Garden brothel for a Magdalen penitentiary, Lucie finds only another form of incarceration and thus descends to the streets, where she is picked up by the author Samuel Butler, who sets her up in her own establishment and visits her once a week for the next two decades. But for many years she does not even know his name. Based on true events.

The Briton and the Dane: Timeline by Mary Ann Bernal – A Cinematic Leap Through Time

Across Centuries: Where History Is a Gate, and Destiny Is a Choice.

 Watch the Trailer

A dark secret. A fierce battle. A shrouded destiny.

In the quiet halls of a modern museum, historian Gwyneth Franger uncovers a medieval portrait that defies explanation. Her research leads to a forgotten fortress and a gateway to the past. Swept into a world on the edge of upheaval, she finds herself in the arms of a man history says must die.

The throne is vulnerable. Loyalties shift like sand. And Gwyneth holds knowledge that could unravel everything.

Trapped in a time not her own, she must navigate ancient tunnels, fierce battles, and a fate already written in blood. But destiny is not fixed. And some secrets echo louder than time itself.

 A Note from the Author

I wrote The Briton and the Dane: Timeline to explore the fragile line between knowledge and power; what happens when someone knows too much about the future, and must choose whether to act or stay silent. Gwyneth’s journey is one of restraint, courage, and transformation. The temptation to change history is real. But strength lies in understanding the weight of consequence, and in honoring the past even when it breaks the heart.

This story is a discovery of identity, legacy, and the quiet heroism it takes to walk through time without leaving footprints.

 About the Book

When a medieval portrait draws historian Gwyneth Franger into a forgotten fortress, her research uncovers more than a mystery; it becomes a gateway. Catapulted into the final days before the Norman invasion, she finds herself in the arms of a man history says must die.

Trapped in the eleventh century, she navigates shifting allegiances, ancient tunnels, and a fate that’s already been written. But destiny is not fixed. And some secrets can echo across bloodlines.

She knows the truth. She holds the key. But every word she speaks could destroy the future.

Book Spotlight: Fool by Mary Lawrence

Betrayal. Power. Perception. The most dangerous mind at court belongs to a fool.

From the author of The Alchemist's Daughter comes a dark tale of ambition and survival.

"One of the most vibrant characters I've encountered in years."--Goodreads Ecostell

Kronos is a fool--mocked for his dwarfism, prized for his juggling, and underestimated by everyone who matters. But in a court ruled by paranoia and whispers, invisibility is its own kind of power.

When Kronos overhears a secret that could destroy Queen Katherine Howard, he becomes a liability the crown cannot afford. Silenced, mutilated, and left for dead, he survives--barely.

Rescued by an ambitious apothecary, Kronos soon realizes he has not escaped danger--he has merely changed masters. His secret is worth a fortune...and powerful men are willing to kill to control it.

But Kronos has spent his life being overlooked and he's ready to use that to his advantage.

As rival factions circle and scheme, Kronos sets a plan in motion--one that could topple the mighty, rewrite his fate, and force his foes to reconsider which of them is truly...the fool.

Perfect for fans of C.J. Sansom and Philippa Gregory

Praise for Fool:

Vividly written and grounded in scrupulous research, Fool captures both the dark comedy and lethal danger of Henry VIII’s court.

~ Nancy Bilyeau, author of The Crown and The Blue

A masterclass in immersive storytelling.

~ Tony Riches, author of the best-selling Tudor Trilogy

A thoughtful and unsparing Tudor novel that reframes the court jester not as comic ornament but as a precarious witness to power.

A native of California, A.B. Michaels holds masters’degrees in history (UCLA) and broadcasting (San Francisco State University).  After working for many years as a promotional writer and editor, she turned to writing the kind of page-turning fiction she loves to read.  She writes historical fiction (“The Golden City” series), historical mystery (the “Barrister Perris” series) and contemporary romantic suspense (“Sinner’s Grove Suspense.”). All three series are character-linked and all are stand-alone reads.

Book Spotlight: The Queen’s Maid: Anne Boleyn in France by Rozsa Gaston

The Tudor series continues! For fans of Philippa Gregory, Elizabeth Chadwick, Carol McGrath and Anne O’Brien.

A new adventure begins for Anne…

France, 1514

After an enlightening period of training as a lady’s maid at Margaret of Austria’s court, Anne Boleyn has been sent to France.

She arrives at the Palace of Tournelles, home of ageing King Louis and his new English wife, Mary Tudor, sister of King Henry VIII. As Anne speaks French, her main role is to serve as translator for Queen Mary.

Anne’s sister Mary is also at the French court, and Anne soon learns that not everyone is pleased about the union between the French king and his young queen.

The king’s cousin-in-law, Louise of Savoy, is desperate for Queen Mary not to fall pregnant, so that her son Francis will ascend the throne.

And with Louise and the English queen pulling Anne in two different directions, it will not be possible to appease everyone.

Can Anne successfully navigate the familial politics at the French royal court? Will she make her mark as one of the queen’s maids?

Or could her divided loyalties prove to be her undoing…?

THE QUEEN’S MAID is a thoroughly researched, fascinating historical novel set during the 16th century in Europe. It is the second book in the Anne Boleyn Chronicles series.

Wonderfully detailed and entirely enjoyable. This is a young Anne in whom I absolutely believe, and who does much to explain the woman she’d become.’ – Sarah Gristwood, author of Game of Queens

Shadows of Empire: A Snippet from Forgiving Nero by Mary Ann Bernal

Snippet

The sound of rumbling thunder caused Nero to rush to his bedchamber, where he shut the door behind him. He fell onto the bed, holding pillows over his ears and muffling the sounds that caused the hairs on his arms to stand. He closed his eyes tightly, not wishing to see the lightning striking across the blackened sky.

His body stiffened when his garments moved. Nero screamed, believing a snake had slithered across his torso, as the bed hangings flapped in the wind.

Agrippina’s apparition appeared before him, close enough to touch. Nero stepped back, his fearful eyes gazing upon Octavia’s bloodied head with scorpions crawling out of her eye sockets.

“Leave me be, begone; I command you!” Nero said.

The specters followed him, getting closer and closer. He felt his mother’s fingernails scratching the side of his face, her mouth close to his, spitting venom onto his tongue. Serpents slipped up his bare legs and wrapped themselves around his chest, constricting his breathing.

“Let go of me!”

Nero pulled the cloth away from his chest, his breathing quick and erratic. His heart beat rapidly, his skin wet and clammy. He fell to the floor, kicking his feet, his hands flying about. The emperor hit his head against a nearby table, causing loss of consciousness as roaring thunder forcefully shook the earth.

🎖️ AWARD-WINNING HISTORICAL FICTION 🎖️

5-Star "Award of Excellence" - Historical Fiction Company

When he dares to defend these "broken" soldiers, Jim faces an impossible choice:

Advance his career by staying silent...
Or risk everything to save the men nobody else believes are worth saving.

Based on the military service of the author's Civil War ancestors, NOSTALGIA is a gripping exploration of battlefield medicine, moral courage, and the invisible wounds of war that wouldn't have a name for another century.
